Many other manufacturers already have seamless updates, but the Galaxy S25 could be the first Samsung S-mobile with the feature.
The technology known as seamless update has been around since Android 7 Nougat, but Samsung consistently didn’t implement it until it appeared in the Galaxy A55 earlier this year. And next year it may also be time for the S models to get it. This is according to leaks that claim to have insight into Samsung’s plans for the upcoming flagships.
Updating an operating system can be quite a lengthy story with a lot of waiting time, in any case if the mobile does not have what is known as seamless updating. The technology is based on updating and switching between two versions of Android that are stored on two different partitions of the internal storage space. When a new version of Android becomes available, the update is installed on the currently unused partition. When the phone restarts, it switches to the updated partition, which is then updated in the background so that both partitions are identical again.
The technology makes it both easier for users to not have to wait for updates to be implemented, and still has a backup version of Android available if the new update causes problems.
