Samsung now seems to have planned some changes to the S Pen that will come with the Galaxy S25 Ultrabut this could be a drastic downgrade rather than an upgrade.
The leaker Ishan Agarwal claims that the S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra it will no longer have Bluetooth functionality. This means the stylus will lose features like gestures and remote control. Removing Bluetooth from the S Pen may not necessarily convert it from an active stylus to a passive stylus. However, it will definitely be a significant downgrade for the S Pen experience.
Samsung introduced the S Pen in 2011 with the first Galaxy Note. Bluetooth functionality has been added to the S Pen much laterwith the launch of the Galaxy Note 9 in 2018. With Bluetooth, Samsung added the ability to use the button on the stylus for various actions, such as activating the camera. Over time, Samsung has improved Bluetooth functionality with Air Gestures and has also improved its scopewith the latest S Pen able to communicate with the Galaxy S24 Ultra up to 30 feet away.
