Gambler’s Night international foreign critics’ jury awards
Best Show – Siberian haiku (Latvian Puppet Theatre, director Valters Sīlis). For an imaginative narrative, excellent ensemble work and a masterful performative translation of the graphic story’s visual poetics for audiences of all ages.
The best individual performance – actor Kaspars Znotiņš for excellent performance, technique and artistic expression in the role of Prince Mishkin in the production of the New Riga Theater The black swan.
Latvian Mobile Phone Theater innovation award for a play that stands out with true humanity and the ability to touch internal emotional sensors, which are technologically far superior to any smart device – Siberian haiku (Latvian Puppet Theatre, director Valters Sīlis)
The awards for lifetime contribution to the performing arts went to the actresses of the Daile Theater, Lidija Pupure and Ilze Vazdika.
The ceremony was organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Boris and Inara Teterev Foundation and the municipality of Valmiera Region: director Toms Treinis, script author Mārtiņš Meiers, scenographer Mārtiņš Vilkārsis, lighting designer Niks Tsiprus, musical directors Emīls Zilberts and Valdis Zilveris, video artist -8, costume designer Ilze Vītoliņa, choreographer Linda Mīlā, producer Ilona Matvejeva etc. The award ceremony was led by three actors of the new generation of Valmiera Theater – Sandis Runge, Ieva Estere Barkāne and Krišjānis Strods.
2023/2024 seasons of the year Gambler’s Night worked in the professional jury commission and Stage nail destinies were decided by: chairman of the jury commission, theater critic, newspaper Day journalist Atis Rozentāls, deputy chairman of the jury commission, theater critic Kitija Balcare, theater critic and internet magazine Satori editor Anna Andersone, theater scholar Evita Mamaja, theater and dance critic Dita Jonīte, theater director and teacher Māra Ķimele and theater director and teacher Juris Rijnieks.
At the ceremony, the presentation of the sympathy award given by the jury of children and young people, the audience’s sympathy award and the innovation award of the Latvian Mobile Telephone Theater has already become a tradition. This year, after a long time, they were also publicly honored Gambler’s Night laureates of the international jury of critics – the best production and the best individual achievement.
Prizes made by metal artist Arvīdas Endziņas were presented to the laureates Stage nail (design – metal artist Juris Gagainis).
