Qualcomm has just announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite, its new high-end SoC. An important moment for smartphone manufacturers, partners of the American firm, who will integrate this chip into their future models. Asus is in this list and confirms that its ROG Phone will be one of the first to offer the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Even more interesting, the gaming-oriented series should be one of the first to arrive with this SoC in our region.
Flagship series of the mobile gaming scene, the ROG Phone range is preparing to welcome its new representative. The ROG Phone 9 will further emphasize performance thanks to the new Snapdragon 8 Elite, taking advantage of the architecture of this SoC composed of a second generation Oryon processor and an improved Adreno GPU. The ROG Phone 9’s mission is to offer “industry-leading power and graphics fidelity”, but also to provide an “immersive and lag-free” gaming experience.
Still plenty of power and AI
Engraved in 3 nm, the Snapdragon 8 Elite will be the headliner of this powerful smartphone dedicated to gamers. Qualcomm ensures that its new chip is up to 45% more efficient than the previous one, while consuming less energy. The GPU is not left out and provides up to 40% additional performance, up to 35% more performance on Ray Tracing and up to 40% less energy consumption. Finally, the ROG Phone 9 will offer new AI-based features and will still be able to rely on improvements made to the chip (+45% AI performance). Asus has also chosen the slogan “AI On, Game On” to evoke its new range of smartphones.
At the same time, Asus confirms that the ROG Phone 9 series will maintain a gamer-centric design. At the Snapdragon Summit, the manufacturer mentioned the existence of two colors (black and white) and advanced cooling. For the rest, we expect an AMOLED screen of around 6.8 inches comparable to that of the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro. The refresh rate should reach 165 Hz in order to meet gamers’ expectations. Its battery would offer a capacity of 5,500 mAh and fast charging of 65 W. Even if this has not yet been confirmed, we can think that Asus continues to offer muscular variants up to 24 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.

The Republic of Famers (ROG) branch of Asus is meeting on November 19, 2024 for the global release of the ROG Phone 9 series. On the price side, remember that the ROG Phone 8 was displayed at the price of 1 099.99 euros in 12 GB + 256 GB version. The Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro was priced at 1,199.99 euros in 16 GB + 512 GB version and the 24 GB + 1 TB variant climbed to 1,499.99 euros . Nothing has leaked regarding the pricing of the ROG Phone 9 series.
