The death of Johnny Gaudreau has affected fans around the world.

As the website Page Six reported, the driver who hit the brothers while under the influence of alcohol is in custody and faces charges of two counts of manslaughter.

Katie Gaudreau and her fiance Devin Joyce were set to get married on Friday at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Gloucester City, New Jersey, the celebration was to be in Philadelphia.

Citing a source, Page Six reported that the wedding was called off after the Gaudreau brothers were tragically killed Thursday night local time when they were hit by a drunk driver while riding a bicycle.

Fox News writes that the family has not yet confirmed the news of the canceled wedding, only issuing a statement thanking them for their support.

“Last night we lost two husbands, two fathers, two sons, two brothers, two nephews and brothers-in-law, two family members, two teammates, two friends and wonderful people,” the family said. Both hockey players and their wives were supposed to be present at the wedding reception.

43-year-old Sean Higgins, who allegedly hit both brothers, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. According to New Jersey State Police, he attempted to pass two other cars, rear-ending both brothers.

Police said Higgins tested positive for alcohol and admitted to the responding officer that he had five or six beers before the crash. He should also have consumed alcohol while driving. He will remain in custody until the court hearing, which is scheduled to take place on September 5.

Johnny Gaudreau is survived by his wife Meredith and two children, two-year-old Noa and six-month-old Johnny. Matthew Gaudreau, 29, is survived by his wife, Madeline.

“The club is shocked and devastated by this unimaginable tragedy, the sudden loss of Johnny and Matt. Johnny was not only a great hockey player, but most importantly – a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. We are praying for their family and will do everything we can to help them overcome this tragedy,” reported the Columbus Blue Jackets, where Johnny Gaudreau worked.
