We are already beginning to understand why Carlos Mazón was an unmitigated disaster during DANA and the consequences of his negligence. The guy believed himself to be a crack, a political ace capable of getting ahead of everyone with his courage and lack of complexes. He surprised the national leadership of the PP ahead of time with the government pact with Vox after the regional elections of 2023. Upon knowing that Vox had decided to break those pacts in the governments of which it was a part, Mazón did not wait for the resignations of his far-right advisors and dismissed them. That didn’t suit the PP either, because it needed to show that it was a unilateral and unnecessary measure by Vox. But Mazón thought he was the smartest in the class.
The thing about the smartest people is that an unexpected event can convince others that they are actually the stupidest. In politics, as in almost everything else, knowing your limitations is a sign of intelligence. Being attentive to what others do or say is one way to reduce errors. In the end, not even his party understands Mazón’s behavior since October 29. “I don’t understand anything he does”said Fernando Garea in Hora 25. “It consoles me that when you talk to leaders of the Popular Party, no one understands them either.”
