The German Chancellor made a worrying statement after the conversation with Putin

According to the chancellor, based on the conversation there was no change in the position of the Russian president regarding Ukraineat the same time Scholz defended his decision regarding the much-criticized phone call.

The German Prime Minister spoke to journalists at the Berlin airport, just before leaving for the G20 summit in Brazil. Scholz emphasized that he considered it important to negotiate with Putin in order to dispel possible misconceptions that the West would stop supporting Ukraine.

The conversation was very detailed, but it contributed to the realization that there has been little change in the Russian president’s views on war – and that is not good news

Scholz said.

The chancellor addressed Donald Trump’s return to the US presidency, noting that it would be unfortunate if Washington were in regular contact with Putin, while no European leader would do so.
