The protagonist of the second stage of “The Glacier Caravan” is the Indren Glacier, located in the Monte Rosa massif.
The journey advances towards another region to continue to talk about new places, new glaciers and the deglaciation processes that occur on the surfaces.
The protagonist of this second stage of “The Glacier Caravan” is the Indren Glacierlocated in the Monte Rosa massif.
Right there, where people went skiing in the summer, a frontal retreat of 64 meters has been recorded in the last two years, of which only 40 meters in the last year.
19 AUGUST 2022
The day of August 19th begins with the enthusiasm and passion for nature that David – photographer EPHOTO technical partner of the Caravan – decided to carry with him, along with his backpack and his technical equipment, throughout the experience with Legambiente.
A few hours of press conference in Aosta and then proceeding with a walk around the town in the company of the President of the Valle d’Aosta club, to discover the Praetorian gate perfectly integrated into the city center and its fascinating medieval corners full of history.
We set off again, to reach the city of Alagna.
A journey that lasted about three hours, among small charming villages.
David’s attention is caught by the workshop of a craftsman who works with wood, “a small labyrinth of wooden objects” as he himself defined it, so he decides to linger a few more minutes to capture that place rich in craftsmanship and tradition.
Once in Alagna, the group is complete and enjoys a pleasant moment of relaxation. Cheered by the melody of Martin Mayes, horn player and testimonial of the campaign.
After this moment of relaxation, the group gets on the cable car and then sets off towards Turin.
20 AUGUST 2022
Ore 6:00
The day starts early with the alarm ringing at 6:00, a quick breakfast at the bar under the ski lift to recharge your energy while waiting for all the other people on the team.
After a short ride on the cable car, you arrive at a beautiful valley.
Then the first stop, accompanied by the experts of the glaciological committee with an explanation of the glacier, its historical excursus to verify the extent and speed of the deglaciation processes, all thanks also to the support of historical images that attest to the reduction in size.
On the return route, part of the team stopped on the disused cable car, where the ice is no longer present and only rocks, debris, lakes and puddles remain.
Then, a focus on the emergency of abandoned ski resorts, around 250 of which have been mapped throughout Italy by the Legambiente Report.
Ore 12:00
The descent begins for a regenerating lunch, followed by the pleasant melody of Martin Mayes with the horn resting on a stone in the middle of the glacial lake.

22 AUGUST 2022
The alarm clock rang very early again this morning.
A brief stop at Vanda’s house and then heading to the press conference at the Glaciological Institute.
At the end of the conference, which received excellent media attention, there was a short lunch break and then home.
And finally, why not end this day with a regenerating swim in the lake?
