Google Home Autumn Update adds major improvements to its smart home cameras, tablets. Everything will now be much more comfortable to control with the help of Google Gemini artificial intelligence.
As Google already announced in the summer, its Gemini will also work with the household, primarily with their devices from the family Nest. The update brings, for example, more natural control of cameras and search in records.
There are two new functions
AI shows off – the artificial intelligence itself will describe what is on the video clips from the home cameras and then you will find exactly the shot you are looking for much more easily.
Camera history search – you can already search the archive of video clips using natural questions such as: “Was the postman today with parcels?” or “When did someone break the vase on the table today?”.
Similarly, using natural instructions, it will be much easier to set up the automation of devices in a smart home. There will no longer be a need to laboriously set things up in an “if this than that” style, but just say the desired result and Google Gemini will set up the relevant devices accordingly.
More news
In the field of security – “Remind me to lock the main entrance before I go to bed” or “Make it look like we’re home while on vacation.” Then Gemini will either remind you of the task at the given time or perform it itself with the smart lock, or it will light up or use blinds at irregular intervals.
In the field of health – “Help me sleep better” and Gemini will instruct the bedroom thermostat to lower the temperature and close the blinds or play relaxing music.
In terms of comfort and tasks – “Notify the family that dinner is ready” and Gemini will send a message to selected mobile phones or play an audio announcement via smart speakers. Or “Remind me to take out the trash”, when Gemini learns when the garbage collectors come and reminds you to take out the trash in time.
Control with the Gemini app
The control of smart devices will now be located not only in the Google Home application, but also directly in the app Gemini and the connection with a smart watch is new. So far, only the Pixel Watch 3 will display the feed from the Nest cameras and the Doorbell, including two-way communication. It sounds like a really practical function, when, for example, during your morning run, you will be able to communicate with the courier who is right at the door with the package with just your watch.
These camera and bell notifications are also coming to Pixel tablets after the autumn update, which has also received new screensavers, for example with an elegant analog clock.
Home control also moves to the Home sidebar on smart TVs with the system Google TV. Even without shouting instructions, you can lock the door or turn off the lights with just the TV remote control.

Other small improvements, such as widgets for selected Google Home devices, also look practical, which can be displayed and controlled directly from the home screen of Android and iOS smartphones. Or sharing access to a smart home. In the settings, you choose which person will have access to which functions and, for example, allow the visitor to control lighting or music in the guest room using Gemini.
The controls of the Google Home application have also been improved, where the artist’s album, volume and easy scrolling of songs are displayed when playing music.
First for USA and UK
All these news will be made available by Google gradually, first to users in the USA and Great Britain, and some of them will be only for subscribers of the Nest Aware Plus service for the cloud archive of video cameras, which costs 14 euros per month. Even so, it is an interesting update that at least shows the real and practical use of advanced artificial intelligence even for laymen.
