The government decides to include government financial support in the Semiconductor Special Act

The ruling party has decided to include financial support-related provisions in the Semiconductor Special Act to support the semiconductor industry.

Kim Sang-hoon, chairman of the People Power Party’s policy committee, announced on the 10th that it was decided to include provisions for financial support, such as government subsidies, in the special semiconductor law promoted as a party line.

Policy Committee Chairman Kim explained at a press conference on this day that, regarding the push for enactment of the Special Semiconductor Act, “We decided to provide financial support such as subsidies.”

The People Power Party plans to speed up legislation to support Korean companies, such as the Special Semiconductor Act, as volatility has increased in the global industry and trade sectors. Policy Committee Chairman Kim explained that the bill is intended to specify the basis for special accounting for strengthening semiconductor competitiveness and stabilizing the supply chain, the establishment of the Semiconductor Industry Competitiveness Reinforcement Committee under the President, and the Semiconductor Innovation Support Group of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

The People Power Party is also pushing for easing the 52-hour workweek regulation limited to research and development (R&D) workers. On the 4th, Rep. Ko Dong-jin of the People Power Party proposed a ‘Labor Standards Act Amendment’ that calls for an exception to the 52-hour workweek for R&D work in national high-tech strategic industries such as semiconductors.
