The latest decisions taken by the government at today’s meeting were presented by Prime Minister Robert Golob, Minister of Culture Asta Vrečko and Minister of Economy, Tourism and Sports Matjaž Han. They announced that they have extended the regulation of electricity prices for the next four months.
Shortly after 1:00 p.m., the party champions of the coalition troika stepped in front of the cameras Robert Dove, Asta Vrečko in Matjaž Han. “If anyone expected that they would allow people’s bills to increase by 30 percent, they are wrong,” said Golob in the introduction, who emphasized that the coalition is united on this issue and that they are here to work “for the benefit of the people.” He confirmed that at today’s meeting, the government adopted a decision to extend the regulation of electricity prices for the next four months. With this measure, they want to prevent the increase in network charges from affecting the final cost that people have for electricity supply.
Golob also announced that a meeting of the National Assembly’s infrastructure committee has been called for next week, and the coalition is united in supporting all the decisions of this committee to “unjustified increases do not spill over into people’s paychecks.” Together with this committee, the coalition proposes to ask the Energy Agency to freeze the implementation of the new network fee calculation system until further notice, namely until a precise analysis of the impact of the changes on the economy, households and the wider social situation of citizens is provided.
Han, the economist, also said that the coalition is united on this issue. “Every measure we take in favor of the people is never too late,” he further emphasized and added that, in accordance with the agreement, the economy will be helped with the intervention law. At the same time, Asta Vrečko expressed her joy at the fact that there are solutions both at the level of the coalition and in the National Assembly, “united and resolutely opposed increases that would plunge people into energy poverty.”
Today, Golob emphasized once again that the Energy Agency is an independent body over which the government has no jurisdiction. So the network fee will rise by exactly what the agency predicted, and the government made sure “through the regulation of the other elements of the deposit, we will keep it at the same level.” The measure will be valid until March, i.e. beyond the period of the higher tariff, and Golob said that it could be different in the end in the case of intervention legislation adopted in the National Assembly.
