the Government is looking for money, but not for the purchase

Garlic car incentives 2025 the Government already said goodbye a few days ago through the Minister of Made in Italy Adolfo Urso who, during a parliamentary question, commented succinctly “It is Bonus time is over“. No more money to support the purchase of new cars, following the emptying of the Automotive Fund decided by the executive during the discussions on the next budget law.

However, this does not mean that the Government has decided not to support in any way the automotive market in Italy. In fact, already a few months ago Urso had anticipated his intention to allocate money no longer to purchasing but to production. We still don’t know what figure we’re talking about. According to what was declared by the minister during a meeting with the Stellantis vertices “We will allocate all the resources of the fund, which we plan to increase during the budget, on the supply side, to support businesses, especially investments in the automotive supply chain.”

What didn’t work

The owner of Mimit reiterated how the car incentives 2024 did not work “This year we invested one billion euros in agreement with Stellantis, which had claimed that the measure would increase production in Italy. Exactly the opposite happened and therefore, as announced, we will not propose it again”.

It is not yet clear how the Government intends to support the offer, nor where and how the funds will be sourced. As mentioned, those allocated in the past by the Draghi Government were cut by 80%, for a total of 4.6 billion euros. What remains are “crumbs” to support a sector in great difficulty. Now the news of a partial about-face in the maneuver.

Urso then launched the idea of a car incentive plan – to support demand – at a European level “Stable and long-lasting, with common resources intended for European consumers”. A sort of recovery fund dedicated to the purchase of new and less polluting cars led by the European Union.

Requests to Stellantis

Today’s meeting with Stellantis was then the opportunity to renew requests to the Group led by Carlos Tavares, asking for greater commitment in Italy

Today we ask Stellantis to take on the social responsibility of relaunch of the Italian car. We ask for a real, significant and clear industrial plan, which goes into detail of each plant in Italy and which provides for a significant increase in investments in our country. (…) The Italian System, not this government or this minister, forcefully asks Stellantis to bet on our country. To give to Italy what Italy gave to Fiat. If the industrial plan responds to these needs, we are there and will give our maximum support

The answer came quickly from Daniela Poggio, vice president of Communication & Public Affairs of Stellantis Italia “Stellantis has a plan for Italy and we will fight to defend our leadership.”
