The Government is negotiating with a Chinese constructor for a factory in Italy

That the Government is trying to attract foreign manufacturersespecially Chinese, to open a car factory in Europe is certainly not news. Now, however, thanks to a preview by Reuters, we know that the executive is already in advanced negotiations with Dongfenga name that was already mentioned some time ago and was also cited by the Minister of Made in Italy Adolfo Urso.

To what was anticipated by the press agency, which cites sources close to the executive, are added the indiscretions published by the Sole 24 Ore which speaks of negotiations in an advanced stage.

From Italy to Europe

According to the economic daily and Reuters, Dongfeng Motors has met several times with the foreign investment attraction unit of Mimit “to build a production plant in Italy that will act as a hub for all of Europe”. A project that could see the direct involvement of the State with a minority stake, together with that of several Italian companies in the components sector.

Again according to the Sun “both sides would be very satisfied of the progress achieved so far, also in light of the recent support of the Italian and Chinese governments”.

If the negotiation were to go through, the project would Minister Urso to exceed 1 million cars produced in Italy could be successful, with Donfeng that could reach – according to the anticipations of a few months ago – 100,000 units produced per year. A fundamental role would naturally also be played by Stellantiswhose discussions with the Government have been going on for months now. News could come as early as tomorrow at the end of the automotive table summoned by Mimit for August 7th.
