The government will introduce a temporary trivial limit of DKK 50 for collections of late paid motor taxes.
Tax Minister Rasmus Stoklund (S) tells the media BT
– I can understand if you, as a citizen, wonder about charges of very small interest amounts, if, for example, you have paid your green owner’s tax on the car too late.
– That is why a temporary trivial limit is included in a bill that has just been put forward, he says to the media.
During the autumn, hundreds of thousands of Danes received collections of small amounts from the Tax Agency.
There are 300,000 collections, and in many of the cases the amounts were less than both five kroner and one kroner.
35 percent of the collections were for less than one kroner, while 30 percent were for amounts between one and five kroner.
Many of the charges involved interest amounts.
It costs around 30 øre for the Tax Agency to send a letter by digital post.
The government’s proposal for the trivial limit will be first considered on Wednesday in the Danish Parliament and, if adopted, will apply from the turn of the year.
The tax administration is currently working on a new collection solution for, among other things, motor taxes, where smaller amounts will be carried forward to the next collection. This is what Stoklund tells BT
The trivial limit will only be a temporary solution.
In the interview, Stoklund does not elaborate on how long the temporary trivial limit will apply and when the new system is expected to be ready.
The Ministry of Taxation announced in September that they were working on introducing a trivial limit of DKK 50 on some collections.
At the same time, one was the future solution, where small amounts are transferred to the next collection rather than being collected separately.
