The answer obviously also depends on who we ask, but the majority of educational institutions’ maintainers and teachers would probably be on the side of prohibition or restriction.

After we have seen several foreign examples of stricter regulation of mobile phone use in schools (the British would even encourage a ban, the Slovaks have already ordered it), it was only a matter of time before a similar step took place in Hungary. Based on a draft decree released by the government for social consultation, new winds will blow in domestic public education from September 1st.

It has been available since Thursday and can be reviewed for a week kormany.hu page the draft of the decree “Prohibited and restricted objects in public educational institutions”, which clarifies what is forbidden to bring to school (this includes things that cannot be sold to under 18s and devices that are particularly dangerous to public safety, as well as everything else, the possession of which is punishable ) and what is the use of which is restricted. Among the latter, the legislators classify “telecommunication devices – especially mobile phones -, devices capable of recording images or sound, and smart devices capable of accessing the Internet.” The draft does not differentiate between grades 1-8 of primary schools. in his grade, in high schools grades 5-12. year or grades 9-13 of vocational high schools. among students in their year, the restriction applies to everyone equally.

The institution must ensure the storage of these objects in a closed place, as specified in the policy. In order to comply with the rules, teachers are entitled to ask students to hand over prohibited or restricted items, or to prove that they do not have such items in their possession.
