The Greek delegation is traveling to the World Robotics Olympiad 2024 with 7 teams

For another year, Greece will participate in the World Robot Olympiad. The 7 teams that will represent the
our country won the ticket from their participation in the qualifying competition, organized by WRO Hellas with strategic partner the
COSMOTE, member of the Telekom Group. In total, more than 80 teams, with more than 320 students and
coaches from 8 regions of Greece.

The World Robotics Olympiad 2024 will be held in Izmir, Turkey from November 28 to 30 under the theme “Allies of the Earth”. It is one of the most important events for science, technology and education worldwide. Children and young people aged 8-19 from all over the world, through demanding and creative challenges, come into contact with the world of robotics, developing their creativity and skills.

The 7 teams that will represent our country in Izmir are: Robovision from Piraeus, Yellow Squad 2.0 with students from Larissa schools, Earphones
from Thessaloniki, REM – Robot Ex Machina, from N. Ionia Magnesia in Thessaly, BotanIQ from Attica, Evripos Robotics from Chalkida, bitLab from Kalamata.

In the Future Innovators category, the team REM – Robot Ex Machina built a technological system to protect areas from fires and earthquakes. Thus, she proposed a solution to the climate problems, which in recent years have caused multiple natural disasters in various regions of the world and won her place in the Greek mission. In the same category, the BotanIQ team managed to qualify by creating a robotic system that assesses soil conditions through chemical analysis and processes the data to determine the suitability of the soil for planting. It then recommends suitable plants based on the previous analysis and automates the planting and care of the selected plants.

Accordingly, in the Robo Mission category, the most popular choice of participants for another year, teams were asked to design,
build and program a robot to meet the requirements of the mission assigned to them. The construction of the robots took place on the day of the qualifier, with participants making changes to the programming according to a surprise rule revealed during the competition. The Robo Mission category is divided into three age groups. For the Elementary School, the Robovision team qualified for the World Olympiad in Izmir. For the Middle School, the Yellow Squad 2.0 team took first place, while for the High School, the Earphones team qualified.

The Evripos Robotics team won the Future Engineers category with the self-driving car they designed, while the bitLab team advanced to the World Olympiad through the RoboSports category, where the teams’ robots were programmed to play the game autonomously on the pitch and cooperate between them, where possible.

Greece has participated in the World Robot Olympiad since 2009, having so far won 9 medals and 20
discrimination. In fact, in last year’s Olympiad, our country emerged as the 1st power in Europe and 4th worldwide among 90 countries. So this year too! The Greek mission has many prospects and possibilities for new distinctions.

COSMOTE, through the strategic collaboration with WRO Hellas, contributes to the dissemination and development of educational robotics and STEM in Greece in the last decade. To date more than 53,000 students and 15,800 teachers and professors have been trained in STEM methodology. COSMOTE has also provided more than 1,100 educational equipment packages to schools. In total, the direct and indirect beneficiaries of the actions are estimated at 330,000.
