THE GREENEST HIGHWAY IN THE WORLD IS BEING BUILT IN DUBAI

The ambitious “Dubai Green Spine” project is in line with the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040. It is worth 36 billion dirhams and includes, among other things, solar trams, which should have enough energy to power 130,000 homes.

The project includes a number of smart technologies. Sensors will monitor traffic and energy consumption, while native flora will line pedestrian and bicycle paths, providing natural cooling and clean air. Residents will have the opportunity to jog on green spaces and grow their own food and plants in agricultural vertical farms along the highway. An adapted drainage system, with porous surfaces, will help prevent flooding and absorb rainwater.

The tram lines will be equipped with solar panels to power the electric trams, which will provide over 300 megawatts of clean, renewable energy. The switch to solar energy is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 1,051,200 tons per year, according to the Dubai investor.

These areas will serve as both recreational spaces and ecological corridors, supporting Dubai’s biodiversity and connecting different parts of the city.

If the project is approved, it could be completed in four phases over the next ten years.

It also includes the installation of sensors to monitor traffic and energy consumption, green areas for pedestrians, cyclists and vertical farms for residents to grow food.

Additionally, it will reduce carbon emissions by more than a million tons per year.
