The grocery store’s transport robot got into trouble – the police came to help!

The police help in times of need. This is what happened to Ruokakauppa’s delivery robot, which got stuck in a snow project. The wheels were spinning without moving forward, when a police car stopped next to the robot and helped a friend in need.

– Let’s take care of even the smallest ones. And let’s help the guy on the hill – or in the ditch, says the publication of the Police Department of Inner Finland.

“Have a safe trip”

– The customer thanked for the help after getting the tires back on the ground, and both parties happily left to continue their own tasks.

Have a safe journey, wished the Police Department of Inner Finland.

What is it about?

A transport robot is a robot specialized in the transport or delivery of various things, such as food.

The transport robot can be fully autonomous or its movements can be controlled remotely, either continuously or as needed, assisting for example when the robot gets stuck.

Several of these cases have happened in winter, when in the snowy conditions of Finland, the food robot has gotten stuck in the snow.

The proliferation of different types of robots is a phenomenon we have become accustomed to. For example, the proliferation of cleaning robots is already quite common.

Robots in shopping malls

In Finland, S Group’s Alepa was the first to introduce food deliveries using transport robots in the capital region in 2022.

The S group uses robots manufactured by the Estonian company Starship Technologies for food deliveries. The customer controls orders and delivery-related steps using the mobile application.

Starship’s robots take advantage of, among other things, several built-in cameras to monitor the environment and artificial intelligence.

In 2023, the S group expanded the operation of transport robots to Tampere, Turku, Pori, Rauma, Jyväskylä and Oulu, among others.

At least the Alepa group has also introduced transport robots.
