If 24 hours of racing on a 60cc moped isn’t hard enough, the weather made the race much more difficult. For more than 20 hours, it rained continuously with variable intensity, and the drivers had to deal with the conditions on the track in addition to the darkness and the competition. One thing is certain, the 24h Kula race, which was held on September 28 and 29, will be remembered as the most difficult.
According to the planned timetable, the race started on Saturday at 19:00, when it was already raining heavily. At the start, the driver of the AMP Racing team from Slovenia did the best, while he was closely followed by Radecki Zemun, NS Racing 1 and MK Tvrdi.
Already in the third lap, MK Tvrdi broke out into second place and began chasing the lead, where they found themselves until the fifth lap, when they had to pit due to a technical problem. At that moment, NS Racing took the lead, ahead of AMP and the team “Dalmatia u mom oku” from Croatia, which took the lead in the 45th lap, where it stayed until the 84th lap when the lead is taken by the NS Racing 1 team, which remained in the lead until the end of 1,709 laps, when the clock struck 24 hours, and the referee showed the checkered flag to the winning team.
The fight for the second position was between the AMP Racing and Garage Team teams. The most uncertain was during the last two hours of the race, when the track dried out, and engine problems became frequent for both teams, and both teams alternated in position number two. In the end, Garage Team from Zrenjanin makes a radical move and decides to replace the power unit, where they lost additional time for the replacement, but had an advantage in speed until the end. The difference soon melted away and the people of Zrenjan reached the second position, ahead of the AMP Racing team from Domžala.
It was not boring behind the first three teams. Almost all the competitors took turns in the lower positions, and the BM-84 team from Slovenia stayed in position four for the longest time, which crossed the finish line in fourth place, ahead of NS Racing 2 and the MK Tvrdi team from Sremska Mitrovica.
In the top ten teams there were also Kikindski Racing Team, Dalmatia in my eye, Jahači Magle from Zemun and Motomax from Sremska Mitrovica.
The 24-hour long race ended with the “Galot announcement of the winner” ceremony with awards ceremony, champagne pouring and fireworks.
“It was extremely difficult, the competitors struggled with extremely difficult conditions. Driving in the rain is not easy, and when we add to that the darkness and the cold in which the race was run, it is clear to you that it was neither easy nor simple. Kula as the host was not failed this time as well, so we will return to her next year, but we will move the race to August, in the hope that the weather will be favorable during that period.” said Igor Gašparević, race organizer.
The next “24h of the Tower” race is planned for August 23, 2025.
