The first heat wave of this summer is coming to an end thanks to the arrival of a colder air mass from the Atlantic that will contribute to the drop in temperatures from this Sunday. However, this change will not yet be noticeable in three communities on the peninsula that remain on alert due to the risk of extreme temperatures.
The weather alert map for this Sunday includes three yellow-level warnings – the least intense alert – for the risk of high temperatures in areas of Andalusia, Castilla-La Mancha and the Region of Murcia. In comparison, just 24 hours earlier, up to nine communities were on alert.
In Andalusia, from 1:00 p.m., Málaga is on yellow alert, where highs of 37 degrees could be reached in parts of Guadalhorce and Axarquía, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
In Castilla-La Mancha, the warnings are in Albacete, where temperatures could exceed 36 degrees in Alcaraz, Segura, Hellín and Almansa.
In the Region of Murcia, Vega del Segura, Campo de Cartagena and Mazarrón are on alert due to the risk of high temperatures (between 37 and 39 degrees).
Catalonia is also on yellow alert, but due to the risk of storms, wind and rain, the latter especially in the Barcelona pre-Pyrenees, the Girona Pyrenees and the pre-coastal and southern Girona coast.
In addition, there is an orange warning in the province of Girona due to a significant risk of coastal phenomena; on the coast of Ampurdán, waves could reach four metres.
The Valencian Community is in yellow due to the risk of wind in the northern interior of Castellón (maximum gusts of 80 kilometres per hour), although this alert is expected to end at 12:00.
Ibiza, Formentera, Mallorca and Menorca are closed due to the risk of coastal phenomena, with waves between two and four metres.
The risk of coastal phenomena has also put points on the coast of Gran Canaria, La Gomera, El Hierro and Tenerife on yellow alert this Sunday.
