The heat wave reaches its peak in Catalonia and Meteocat activates yellow warnings in these areas

The heat wave will reach its peak between Friday and Saturday in Catalonia, with temperatures above 34 degrees on the coast, 38 inland and up to 40 in the West, according to the forecast of the Meteorological Service of Catalonia (Meteocat).

Today, the weather is expected to be even warmer than yesterday during the central hours of the day. The minimum temperature will rise slightly or locally moderately, with values ​​above 20 degrees in almost the entire community and up to 26 in Barcelona.

Maximum temperatures will also rise slightly. In parts of the extreme northeast and in central Catalonia, temperatures could reach 38 degrees, as well as in Ponent and in the Tremp basin, where they could even reach 40 degrees. On the coast, temperatures could reach 34 degrees and in parts of the pre-coastal region, 36 degrees.

In view of the extreme heat, Meteocat has activated the yellow warning in most regions of Catalonia, with the exception of Montsià, Baix Ebre, Terra Alta, Ribera d’Ebre, Priorat, Baix Camp, Tarragonès, Alt Camp, Conca de Barberà, Baix Penedès, Garraf, Maresme, Barcelonès, Val d’Aran, Alt Urgell, Cerdanya, Ripollès, Pallars Sobirà and Alta Ribagorça.

Until mid-morning, scattered showers with thunderstorms are possible in parts of the southern half of the country, and are not ruled out for the rest of the coast and pre-coast. In the afternoon, some isolated showers are expected in the far north of the Pyrenees.

According to the forecasts of the Catalan meteorological service, the heat will continue on Saturday, although temperatures will not rise. Both minimum and maximum temperatures will remain the same or drop slightly. Even so, in Ponent, in the Tremp basin and in the extreme northeast temperatures could reach 38 degrees, and even 40 degrees in Alt Empordà.
