In Turin, from November 15th il MAUTO – National Automobile Museum hosts 125 times Fiatan exhibition which, as the curator Giuliano Sergio explains, aims to «surprise an audience too accustomed to considering Fiat as a simple car factory (…). Behind the official and somewhat dusty imagery of the national automotive flagship lies a surprising and mobile history, the ability that has always distinguished it to know how to interpret the tumultuous historical events of the twentieth century to project itself into the contemporary.”
The exhibition was born on the occasion ofanniversary of the foundation of the Italian Automobile Factory in Turinwhich took place in Turin 125 years ago, in 1899. Over a century of history and experiments, not only in the automotive field, during which the company’s path has been intertwined with the cultural, industrial and economic development of Italy.
Enthusiasts will be able to see it exhibited eight representative cars of FIAT historywhile a very rich selection of works of art, artist’s sketches, advertising posters, archival documents e graphic materials, photographic e audiovisual exceptional will intrigue all visitors, taking them back to the times in which the collective imagination of the company was built.
From collaborations with artists like Mario Sironi o Felice Casorati in the 1930s, to the vintage images of the production departments – including the testing that was carried out on the track at the top of the Lingotto factory, which has now become a roof garden and exhibition venue – up to historical photos like the one that portrays Enrico Berlinguer at the rally during the March of 40,000 right in front of door 5 of the Mirafiori headquarters.
Created in collaboration with Centro Storico FIAT and Heritage HUB, the exhibition open to visitors until 4 May 2025offers an overview of how the factory has drawn on the arts to tell its story and how leading authors and artists have represented it over the decades. A colorful portrait of our country in some of its most significant historical moments, which overlaps with as many memories of our personal experience.
