In the town of Eitzum in the north of Germany, firefighters had to intervene in an unusual rescue last weekend. A horse got stuck in the window of the stable and apparently wanted to jump out of the window into the open, but his attempt failed.

Firefighters from the local volunteer fire brigade arrived in Eitzum, near Hanover, on Saturday afternoon to find that the horse had become wedged in a barn window as it apparently tried to jump through the open window to freedom. In doing so, he hung the front half of his body over the window with his hooves in the air, the fire chief said Eike Knappe.

Ten firefighters participated in rescuing the unfortunate animal, according to German media, which also published a photo of the stuck horse.

Firefighters first piled manure under the hanging front of the horse to support and stabilize it. He was then carefully pulled out of the window with two straps. The rescue operation took about an hour and a half, Knappe said, adding that the horse was scared but unharmed.
