The import of used cars into Serbia is not slowing down, according to statistical data available to the Serbian Association of Importers of New Vehicles and Parts.
The analysis of data on first-time registered used vehicles by the Cube Team shows that, unfortunately, vehicles with Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines are being imported unhindered and our country is littered with vehicles that are unsafe, environmentally unacceptable and in a large number of countries their import is not allowed.
Data show that in the first six months of 2024, 65,275 used vehicles were imported into Serbia. Last year, in 2023, a total of 131,905 used cars were imported throughout the year. Let us remind you that in the first six months, 18,256 new passenger and light commercial vehicles were sold in Serbia.
In the structure of the import of used vehicles in the first six months of this year, almost half of the total number are vehicles with Euro 3 and Euro 4 engines.
Thus, a total of 6,273 vehicles were imported whose engines meet only the Euro 3 standard, or 9.61 percent. 23,345 vehicles with Euro 4 engines were imported, or 35.76 percent. Vehicles with Euro 5 engines make up 29.90 percent of the total import of used cars (19,514 used vehicles) and 16,143 used vehicles with Euro 6 engines, which makes up 24.73 percent.
When you look at the age of these vehicles, the picture of second-hand imports is even bleaker.
Only 3,826 used cars that were registered for the first time in this period are under five years old. Only 18,818 vehicles up to ten years of age were imported, which means that as many as 46,457 used vehicles older than ten years were imported to Serbia from New Year’s to July 1.
When it comes to brands, most used vehicles are still imported with the Volkswagen logo on the hood. In the first six months of this year, 12,703 Volkswagens were imported. In second place is Audi with 5,792 vehicles. They are followed by Opel with 5,303, Peugeot 5,225, Renault 4,463, BMW 4,128, Citroen 3,562, FIAT 3,316, Mercedes-Benz 3,295 and Ford with 3,262 vehicles.
It imported a total of 51,049 vehicles of these ten bands during the first six months of this year.
