the Insta360 Flow Pro puts a robot camera in your bag for little money

The smartphone gimbal seemed dead, but does Insta360 have an ideal toy for the perfect holiday video with the Flow Pro?

Insta360 is best known for its 360-degree cameras such as the new X4. But the brand also makes a small action camera and a smartphone gimbal. About eight years ago they were just as popular because you could suddenly take beautiful stabilized images with your smartphone. But soon the smartphone gimbals ended up in the drawer, because they were just not handy enough and not easy enough to carry and use. For only stabilized images it was better to purchase a GoPro.

The new Insta360 Flow Pro solves the main problems of those old smartphone gimbals, but also offers a few new benefits. It packs down very small, making it easy to fit in a jacket pocket. Your phone can be magnetically clicked on, making assembly and disassembly super fast. But moreover, it can not only stabilize images, but also track and move objects.

Brilliant basketball mode

Place the Insta360 Flow Pro on its foldable legs and you can have it fully automatically follow your skateboarding child, your own head or a car. With endless settings you can always find a mode that works for you. For example, there is ‘hope mode’ – hope in English – that you aim at a basketball court, after which it follows the entire game, but only saves the clips in which a goal is scored. He even keeps track of the score on screen.

For the first time in years, I regularly have a smartphone gimbal with me. With the app I make a basketball highlight video in 20 seconds, but the entire Renault Scenic video was also shot on the Flow Pro, with a Rode Wireless Go II connected as a microphone. The only disadvantage I have discovered so far is that the app quickly drains your phone’s battery when used. You can connect it wired to the Flow Pro, so you can use it as a power bank. But then you can’t connect a microphone again. Small disadvantage of an otherwise brilliant device.
