The Fiat Grande Panda no longer has much in common with its ancestor from the eighties. It is now an almost four-meter long compact crossover, which is available as an all-electric or with a hybrid internal combustion engine. However, the interior design has many retro details.
The first distinctive feature of the Fiat Grande Panda is the oval dashboard, inspired by the shape of the historic Lingotto race track in Turin. The same rectangular, oval shape is reserved for the panel that includes the 10-inch digital instruments and the 10.25-inch multimedia.
Special attention was paid to the optimization of the space in the interior. There are compartments with a total of 13 liters in the dashboard. In front of the passenger is a 3-liter shelf reminiscent of the famous open “lounger” designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro for the 1980 Panda.
An interesting detail is the transparent yellow plate in the middle of the dashboard, on which you can see the silhouette of the first Panda. Part of the dashboard is covered with bamboo fibers, including the glove compartment.
The front seats with integrated headrests are square-shaped, as are the rear seats. There is also yellow contrast stitching and also a yellow “Panda made with love in Fiat” inscription. It is obvious that Italy is no longer mentioned anywhere, considering that the Italian government has banned the installation of the Italian flag and the mention of Italy unless the product is made in them.
Although with a length of 3.99 meters it is shorter than the B segment average of 4.06 meters, Fiat uses the capabilities of the new Stellantis Smart-Car platform to offer five seats and sufficient trunk volume.
The trunk has a capacity of 361 liters, which is significantly more than the current Panda, which has at least 225 liters. By comparison, the larger Fiat 500X has only 350 liters of boot space.
To remind, new Fiat Grande Panda is constructed on the Stallantis STLA Smart mechanical platform, which it shares with the new Citroen C3, Peugeot 2008, Opel Frontera, Jeep Avenger, Lancia Ypsilon, Alfa Junuior…
They will share the powertrain with them, which in the SUS variant includes a 1.2 three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with and without a light hybrid. Without it, it should have 100 horses, while with the light hybrid integrated into the automatic transmission, 136 horsepower can be expected. A fully electric variant should have similar power…
