In ten cities of the Czech Republic, the international Circus Night event will take place today and over the weekend, the aim of which is to support a new circus. The Czech Republic is joining the project, which originated in France in 2019, for the first time.
Over 20 different events will be held – new circus performances by foreign and domestic groups, circus workshops for toddlers, older children, teenagers and adults, a walk with acrobats and a circus fighting game. People can visit them in Prague, Brno, České Budějovice, Ostrava, Pilsen, Hradec Králové, Trutnov, Valašské Meziříčí, Varnsdorf and Dešenice na Klatovsk.
“Our goal is to draw attention to the new circus as a genre, to its variety and what experiences it offers. We want to show here, but also abroad, how many talented artists are creating and where they are everywhere in the Czech Republic,” said Jiří Turek, director of the Letní Letná festival and chairman of the New Circus Association.
The program, which is coordinated in the Czech Republic by the New Circus Association, will include the events of the organizers of new circus festivals, ensembles and theaters. More information, a program and a map of the participating cities can be found on the website https://lanuitducirque.com/en/.
In France, the event will take place for the sixth time under the name La Nuit du Cirque, in Germany for the fourth time as Zeit für Zirkus. Furthermore, artists from Belgium, Holland, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Tahiti, the USA or Canada will also join the celebrations of the new circus. The offer includes over 300 events in 18 countries or territories from November 15 to 17. Last year, almost 50,000 visitors visited the events in the project.
