The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) adopted drafts of the IPCC Special Report on Climate Change and Cities and the IPCC Methodological Report for the year 2027 on short-term climate factors. 2027 IPCC Methodology Report on Inventories for Short-lived Climate Forcers).
Agreed draft Special report on climate change and cities covers trends, challenges and opportunities for cities in the context of climate change, actions and solutions to reduce urban risks and emissions, strategies for enabling and accelerating changes in urban environments, as well as specific solutions for different types of cities and regions.
You can view the entire draft here, and the publication of the Special Report is planned for March 2027.
Methodological report of the IPCC for the year 2027 on short-term climate factors will provide guidelines for monitoring emissions of short-term climate factors affecting climate change, with several key criteria. The first criterion refers to anthropogenic emissions, but among them secondary substances caused by man are excluded. Then, the data that will be presented on emissions will be national, which means that they will be collected and summarized for the entire territory of the country. There will also be annual emissions, which means that the report is made on the basis of collected data for each calendar year. This is significant because it enables monitoring of changes over time and more accurate assessments. Finally, for each type of emission, the report will show its quantity in mass units, such as kilograms, metric tons, or other mass measurement units.
You can see more about the draft and the types of shows that will be included here. It is expected that the Methodological Report will be published in July 2027.
The approval of the draft is important, because it opens the possibility for the next phase – the selection of the authors who will write the mentioned reports. Thousands of people from all over the world contribute to the creation of the Report, and experts voluntarily evaluate numerous scientific works as authors of the IPCC, in order to finally offer a summary of the most important.
IPCC reports are important for decision makers in the country, in order to develop the best climate policy based on the data.
These reports are published every five to seven years.
As part of the first assessment cycle, it was published in August 1990 First IPCC Assessment Report–aand what he is remembered for is emphasizing that human activities, especially those that contribute to greenhouse emissions, have a significant impact on global warming.
The IPCC is currently in its seventh assessment cycle, which formally began in July 2023.
