As we already told you a few weeks ago, Today was the day chosen by Apple to present the iPhone 16 generationa new evolutionary leap for the telephone that did not invent the concept of the smartphone, but did reinvent it, giving rise to the biggest change that the mobile phone market has ever experienced in its history, and also one of the most notable in the recent history of technology and consumer electronics.
As always with Apple, Until now we had no official information about this new generation of iPhone.which doesn’t mean that we don’t know anything about it. This year, once again, leaks have been the order of the day from the very beginning and, therefore, we have already been able to “know” a lot of what will arrive with the iPhone 16. And so much so, that just over two weeks ago we were able to offer you a complete summary of the main new features of this generation.
Based on the information we have so far, We were already expecting this to be a “minor” renovationwhich would certainly come with some interesting new features, but would not mark a big difference with respect to its predecessor. And although this has been the case with the Pro models, we cannot say the same about the standard and Plus models, which have arrived with a good set of new features, making them a good generation to jump to with respect to their predecessors.
But let’s stop talking about what we expected and focus on what we found. This is what Apple has told us about its new generation.
iPhone 16
We begin the review of what they have shown us today with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which They are the devices that have experienced the most evolution of all those shown to us in this afternoon’s keynote.. And so much so that, in this case, we can say, before starting to review the news, that we are facing an important evolution that, as I indicated previously, can justify the jump from an iPhone 15, and undoubtedly do so from previous generations.
The first thing to note about the new iPhone 16 and 16 Plus It has to do with physical controls, with buttons. Thus, on the one hand, we see the arrival of the action button to the standard models, which debuted exclusively in the Pro models of the previous generation, and which is now extended to the entire family, and Camera Control, which represents an exceptional improvement in the user experience of the camera functions of these devices.
About the first of these buttons, which as you probably already know replaces the traditional switch that silenced the mobile phone from its origins, pIt allows you to assign multiple functions that can also vary depending on the context.For now, the vast majority of them are those of the operating system and its tools, but Apple has also opened their use to third parties, so that they can incorporate their own functions to those already available in the system.
More interesting, because it is innovative, is Camera Controlwhich you can see in the image above this paragraph, and provides a completely renewed user experience of the iPhone 16 camera function. Covered in sapphire glass, it provides quick access to a large number of camera functions. Thus, a first press opens the camera, while a second takes a photo. But if, in this case, we press it for a longer time, what we will do is start recording video.
But this is not all, since with various combinations of pulsations, We will be able to directly access various image capture settingssuch as zoom, exposure time, aperture, etc. In this way, Apple has concentrated many of the most used functions of the camera function into a single control, comfortable, accessible and which also provides haptic feedback to our actions. We do not leave aside the photographic section, as we also find a lot of evolution in its main camera. Its main element is what Apple has called Fusion Camera (raise your hand if this name reminded you of Fusion Drive), a wide angle (equivalent to 26mm) of 48 megapixels with number f/1.6, which also acts as a 12-megapixel 2x telephoto lens, and maintains the brightness f/1.6.
