The iPhone 17 models come with a long-awaited improvement

Regular iPhone users may finally have reason to rejoice.

According to several industry sources, Apple is preparing a significant upgrade for the standard iPhone 17 models, which could debut a high refresh rate screen.

A leap for standard iPhone models

Until now, ProMotion technology has been reserved exclusively for Pro models, creating a clear difference between the base and premium range.

But according to a recent leak on Weibo by user Digital Chat Station, Apple seems determined to bridge this technology gap.

The company would equip the entire iPhone 17 series with LTPO OLED panels, capable of offering a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz.

Real benefits for Apple fans

Switching to LTPO panels brings multiples advantages. In addition to the increased fluidity of animations and scrolling, the new technology also enables the implementation of the Always-On Display function, until now only available on Pro models.

Furthermore, LTPO panels are known for their superior energy efficiency compared to the current LTPS screens used on the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, which are limited to 60Hz.

Confirmations from multiple sources

This is not the first time we hear about this change.

The publication The Elec mentioned as far back as February 2024 the possibility of Apple switching to LTPO panels for all iPhone 17 models.

Ross Young, a well-known analyst specializing in display technologies, also confirms that the entire range will have ProMotion capabilities.

What does this mean for the market?

Apple’s decision to bring high refresh rates to standard models comes after most Android manufacturers already offer this feature even on midrange phones.

It remains to be seen whether the implementation will be as complete as on the Pro models, and especially whether this improvement will influence the final price of the devices.

There are still many details to be confirmed before the debut of the iPhone 17 series, but one thing is certain: Apple seems determined to reduce the technological differences between the standard and Pro models, at least in terms of screen quality. For users who can’t afford the Pro variant, this news could make waiting until the next generation of iPhones really worth it.
