Due to the risk of escaping and hiding, the court ordered the arrest of the Irish man suspected of killing a young American tourist for thirty days on Sunday, the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of the Capital City informed us.
The suspect and the defense appealed, but so did the prosecutor’s office, because according to their point of view, the danger of repeating the crime is also real. The order is thus not final.
As our newspaper reported, Mackenzie Elizabeth Michalski from Portland arrived in Budapest as a routine traveler at the end of October, where she met a thirty-seven-year-old Irish man on November 5. According to the police, they were seen together at several nightclubs.
The woman later went up to the man’s rented apartment, who allegedly murdered her during sex.
The alleged perpetrator then tried to cover up the tracks, cleaned the apartment and then hid the body in one of the closets while he went and bought a suitcase and rented a car. He then went back to the apartment, put the body in the suitcase and put it in the trunk of the car. He drove towards Lake Balaton, then stopped at Szigliget, took out the suitcase on a side road and took it into the forest. He took the body out of the suitcase and left it in a swampy area. After that, the man went back to Budapest, he was caught here the policemen.
During his interrogation, the man admitted to the murder and also showed where he hid the body, but he claimed it was an accident.
In the course of the investigation, it was also revealed that the Irish man searched the Internet for such things after the murder as whether wild boars really eat the corpse, are there wild boars at Lake Balaton, how to eliminate the smell of rotting meat, are they in Budapest- these surveillance cameras and how reliable the police are. The victim’s family thanked the Hungarian police his work.
