Addressing soldiers at the northern border, Halevi stated that the purpose of the latest airstrikes was to prepare the battlefield for a possible entry into Lebanon to continue weakening the Shiite militant group “Hezbollah”.
In order to give displaced Israeli citizens the opportunity to return home in the north of the country, the army is preparing for a corresponding maneuver, the general added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Israel announced that it was calling up reservists to complete two brigades and send them to the north of the country, where there are cross-border clashes with Hezbollah.
It happened a few hours after Hezbollah fired a ballistic missile at Tel Aviv.
The army said that the reservists are being called up for “operational tasks in the northern area of operation” and that “this will allow for the continuation of hostilities against the terrorist organization “Hezbollah”.”
The Israeli military also said it carried out more than 280 strikes on targets in Lebanon linked to Hezbollah on Wednesday.
Even before this announcement, the Israeli army announced that Israeli warplanes had carried out airstrikes on 60 targets linked to the “Hezbollah” intelligence service.
