In a statement, the army said that the bodies of Maya Goren and reservists Ravid Aryeh Katz and Oren Goldin, residents of kibbutzim near the Gaza Strip, as well as those of two soldiers, Tomer Ahimas and Kiril Brodski, were brought to Israel.
Two kibbutzim where Oren Goldin and Maya Goren were originally from announced on Wednesday evening that their bodies have been returned.
The five, whose deaths had already been announced, were killed on October 7, during the bloody attack undertaken by Hamas on Israeli territory, in which 1,197 people died, mostly civilians, according to a toll established by AFP based on official data Israeli.
Of the 251 people kidnapped then, 111 are still in Gaza, but according to the Israeli army, 39 of them are not alive.
In retaliation for the Oct. 7 attack, Israel launched an offensive that left more than 39,000 dead in the Palestinian enclave, mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry.
According to the army radio station, Maya Goren, a 56-year-old educator, was killed during the attack on Kibbutz Nir Oz, one of the hardest hit communities that day.
The other four were two military reservists and two soldiers who were killed during the fighting.
The bodies were recovered from the Khan Younis area of southern Gaza, where Israeli forces launched two raids this week.
