The popular jury has found the four men accused of murdering Samuel Luiz guilty, one of them as an accomplice, and has declared the only woman in the trial not guilty, in a case in which there were already two minors convicted of murder.
The first section of the Provincial Court of A Coruña has welcomed the reading of the verdict of the trial against five adults in the case of the death of Samuel Luiz on July 3, 2021, in which the accusations requested sentences of between 22 and 27 years of prison for murder with treachery and cruelty – the latter ruled out by the jury, as well as homophobia, which is not proven either.
For the popular jury, the authors are Diego Montaña, Alejandro Freire ‘Yumba’ and Kaio Amaral Silva, while Alejandro Míguez was an accomplice of the group; Catherine Silva, unanimously, excludes her from acting in unity of action, although she links her to making defense impossible.
In the case of the first three, Diego MM is considered the person who initiated the attack; Alejandro FG was accused of grabbing him by the neck and back, and Kaio ASC was attributed to some witnesses as the person who carried his leg to launch a kick. The three were already in prison.
As an accomplice, and by seven votes, Alejandro MR, who some witness said was at the core of the attack without confirming whether he hit. He, like Catherine SB, was free with an obligation to appear. She, unanimously, is considered not guilty either as a co-author or as an accomplice.
In the case of Montaña and Freire, the jury unanimously considered them co-authors of the crime of murder with malice, not cruelty, and in the case of Amaral it was by a majority of seven votes. The latter was also unanimously convicted of robbing the victim.
