SARAJEVO – In the first quarter of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the labor force consisted of 1,410 million people, of which 1,223 million or 86.7 percent were employed and 187,000 or 13.3 percent were unemployed, according to data from the labor force survey in BiH.
Compared to the first quarter, the number of employed persons increased by 1.4 percent, while the number of unemployed persons increased by 0.1 percent, the BiH Statistics Agency announced.
In the second quarter of the total number of unemployed persons, 44,000 or 23.3 percent were looking for a job for less than 12 months, while 26,000 or 13.6 percent were looking for a job from 12 months to two years, while the number of unemployed persons who were looking for a job was two year and longer amounted to 118,000 or 63.1 percent.
According to the data from the survey, of the total number of persons who make up the workforce, 851,000 or 60.3 percent are men, and 559,000 or 39.7 percent are women, while of the total number of employed persons, 760,000 or 62.1 percent are men, and 463,000 are or 37.9 percent are women, and of the total number of unemployed, 91,000 or 48.7 percent are men, and 96,000 or 51.3 percent are women.
In the observed period, of the total labor force, 66.4 percent of people belong to the age group from 25 to 49 years, followed by 26.8 percent to those from 50 to 64 years, 5.6 percent to the age group from 15 to 24 years and 1.2 percent is 65 and older.
Of the total number of employed persons, 66.4 percent belong to the age group from 25 to 49 years, then 27.7 percent to those from 50 to 64 years, 4.5 percent to the age group from 15 to 24 years and 1.4 percent are 65 and over. year.
Of the total number of unemployed persons, 66.3 percent belong to the age group of 25 to 49 years, followed by 20.7 percent to the age group of 50 to 64 years, 12.8 percent to the age group of 15 to 24 years and 0.2 percent are 65 and older. year.
The largest share in the educational structure of the workforce is people with completed high school and specialization, 69.2 percent, followed by people with completed higher education, college, master’s, doctorate, 21.2 percent, and people with completed elementary school or lower education. 9.5 percent.
The educational structure of employed persons shows that 69.5 percent of persons have completed secondary school and specialization, followed by persons with completed higher school, college, master’s degree, doctorate 22.5 percent, and persons with completed elementary school or lower education 8.1 percent.
The educational structure of the unemployed shows that 67.7 percent have completed secondary school and specialization, followed by those with completed primary school or lower education 19 percent, and persons with completed higher school, college, master’s, doctorate 13.3 percent.
The structure of employed persons according to activity groups shows that the highest share of employed persons is in service activities – 59 percent, then in industry and construction 32.9 percent and in agriculture, forestry and fishing 8.2 percent.
The survey was conducted on a sample that included 10,727 households in the second quarter, and all resident members of private households were surveyed.
In order to comply with EU regulations and Eurostat requirements, starting from 2020, the procedure of calibrating weights according to population estimates by five-year age groups and gender is being carried out.
