The largest airport in Poland with a gigantic record

The popular Okęcie, the main airport of Warsaw, is the largest airport in the country. The airport, which has two runways, is a transfer hub for PLL LOT, and also the place where we can find the most direct connections in our country. For years, the airport has handled the most passengers of all domestic airports, and last month it managed to break a certain historical record there.

For the first time in the 90-year history of the airport, over 2 million passengers in one month. The record-breaking June left other months behind, also in terms of the largest number of passengers in a single day. This title was awarded to the 28th of the month, when around 75 thousand people passed through the airport corridors.

This statistic means that Okęcie closes the first half of 2024 with 9.7 million passengers. It is therefore very likely that by the end of the year we will be able to exceed the barrier of 20 million passengers. Remember that it is July now, and ahead of us are still August and September – some of the most “active” months for air traffic. October will also be intensive. In the near future, a lot of tourists will use air travel going on vacation.

And we are talking about both regular and charter flights. It is the latter type of flight that has rebuilt strongly in recent years. Typically holiday connections (organized by travel agencies) have attracted more passengers in recent months not only compared to 2023, but also compared to 2019, the last season before the pandemic.

Passengers from Warsaw Airport most often choose destinations in Europe. The most popular destinations include European capitals such as Paris, London and Amsterdam. Among the popular charter destinations, there is no shortage of resorts, such as those in Egypt, Turkey or Greece.

It is worth remembering that from Okęcie we can also go on a long trip, for example to the USA, Japan, Canada or India. We can find such flights in the offer of PLL LOT.
