The largest bakery group in the world is “conquering” our region
The bakery company Don Don from Slovenia signed a contract with the Mexican company Bimbo, according to which they will become part of the largest bakery group in the world.
According to the Slovenian News Agency, with this move, Don Don will take a leading role in the development of the business and sales program in Central and Southern Europe, where Bimbo has not been present until now.
“Don Don’s bakery products through the Bimbo group will get a unique opportunity for promotion and sales on world markets,” the company announced.
According to them, the bakery group will strengthen its regional presence and continue investments in high-tech factories, strategic connections and acquisitions in key markets.
The Bimbo Group, based in Mexico City, is present in 35 countries in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. It has 227 production plants and more than 1,500 sales centers.
The Don Don Group managed to transform from a family business into a leading bakery group in the region in the past three decades. During 2023, Don Don achieved 190 million euros in revenue and doubled its net profit to 21 million euros, compared to 2022.
The group from Slovenia became recognizable through the brand “Tvojih pet minuta”, and the turning point was the entry into the Croatian market in 2003. After that, the company entered the market of Serbia, Montenegro, and then Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In 2023, Don Don produced more than 50 million donuts in Kranj, and sold more than half of them abroad, mainly to Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia, as well as to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
