A post on social media by BMW has revealed the launch date of the new R1300 GS Adventure.
Only a few months after the launch of the R1300 GS, the Adventure variant arrives, a date jul 5 17:00.
The post shows a blacked-out photo of the bike with the signature X-shaped headlights, but with additional side lights, a much wider body and crash bars surrounding it, indicating that this is the long-awaited Adventure variant of the new R1300.
Probably the most notable feature of the new GS Adventure machine is that it will be available with BMW’s new ASA (Automated Shift Assist) automatic transmission for motorcycles. Like Honda’s DCT system, BMW’s ASA removes the clutch lever, and the driver can select predetermined gearshift schedules based on the type of driving that suits them. As ASA is now being added to the Adventure version of the bike, we expect the standard R 1300 GS to use the same technology.
Like the outgoing R1250 GS and R 1250 GS Adventure models, the larger bike has a slightly lower top speed than its smaller and lighter counterpart. The new GS Adventure is said to have a top speed of 220 km/h, which is about 5 km/h less compared to the R 1300 GS. The lower top speed is not a big surprise considering the increased weight of the bike.
On that front, the GS Adventure is claimed to weigh 20.8kg more than the regular version, ie 258 kg in ready-to-drive condition. Part of that increased weight will come down to the Adventure model’s larger fuel tank, which is one of the bike’s most attractive features. While we don’t have any data to show what the GS Adventure’s fuel tank capacity would be, we’d expect it to be somewhere around 30 liters, which would make it about the same as the outgoing R 1250 GS Adventure.
