Finnish hockey legend Teemu Selänne has been living in Los Angeles for several years. In a recent podcast by Jussi Heikelä and Art Koskela, he explained why he decided to apply for a gun license.
The reason is the high crime rate, which is related to the situation with the homeless. There are around 70,000 of them on the streets.
Gas station owners mainly complain about theft. It is especially dangerous in their surroundings, especially in the evening hours.
“I only go into town a few times a month when I go to play golf or run errands. I always try to leave there as soon as possible,” says Selänne in the podcast.
For a sense of security, he carries a baseball bat and a knife in the trunk of his car.
“I have them with me just in case. However, I applied for a gun license. I don’t want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,” says the Finn.
He has several weapons in his collection at home, he would like to carry a Glock 19 pistol with him, which is also used by police forces in the USA.
In the podcast, he also commented on the current election situation in America.
According to him, the country’s electoral system enables fraud.
“You don’t have to prove yourself with any document when you go to vote. It makes me want to vomit,” admits the Finn.
He suggested that illegal immigrants are being manipulated into voting for those who allowed them to stay in the country.
A total of 15 states do not require the presentation of personal documents to be able to vote. One of them is California, where Selänne lives.
This may result in repeated attempts to vote.
“Still, I don’t think it’s done so often that it really affects the election results,” adds Selänne.
Together with his wife Sirpa, they have decided to vote for the Republican candidate Donald Trump.
