The Library’s Study Room reaches record numbers, with almost 6,500 users

Martorell Library

The last edition of the Study Room of the Francesc Pujols Library, which ended on July 5, has once again broken records with 6,480 users. This record of students, which corresponds to the time slots dedicated exclusively to the service, represents an increase of 81.5% compared to last year. The maximum influx of people to study and prepare papers occurred between May 13 and June 2, just before the PAU.

Maximum satisfaction among the Library staff in view of the increasing acceptance of the Classroom. The 6,480 registered users far exceed the figure reached a year ago – then there were 3,571 – and become the most massive of all editions. In the previous edition from January 2 to February 9, 2024 there were 2,393.

“It is a very good figure that shows that it has been a very successful edition. We have practically doubled the number of visitors”, highlights the director of the Library, Mercè Parera. In fact, however, the real number of users is much higher, since only “students who enter the Classroom outside Library hours” can be counted. During the regular hours, both those who come to study and those who read, look for a volume or participate in the activities converge, and it is impossible to count them.

Specifically, the Classroom has been open every day of the week between Monday 6 May and Friday 5 July, uninterrupted from 09.00 to 23.00. It was the longest edition of all, and lasted 9 weeks. 61 consecutive days.

The greatest concentration occurred in the week of May 27 to June 2 (1,557), followed by the period between May 13 to 19 (1,253) and June 3 to 9 (1,090). The reason is “the proximity to the University entrance exams (PAU)”.

The good figures are boosted by this great increase in opening days: “We had never extended the Classroom this much before”, says Parera. The reason was the request “of a few university students, given that there are faculties that still schedule exams in July”.

From the equipment it is noted that the activity has been carried out without notable incidents, and that aspects such as the accessibility of the facilities, the surveillance service and the cleaning service have been improved. All in all, with the intention of offering students a quiet and relaxed space where they can prepare for exams and end-of-year assignments.
