How reports RBC, Rosalkogoltabakcontrol suspended the license of JSC Chugunovsky Distillery on October 10. As the department explained, the decision was due to the fact that the organization “did not properly” dispose of alcohol production waste.

On website “Chugunovsky” says that the plant, founded in 1913, is one of the oldest enterprises in the alcohol industry in Russia. In 2021, 88.46% of the plant was acquired by the Beluga Group, which was later renamed Novabev Group.

According to the financial statements, the revenue of Chugunovsky Distillery in 2023 amounted to 796.6 million rubles with a net profit of 219.9 million rubles.

In April 2024, the publication NN.ru wrote about an “ecological disaster” in the Nizhny Novgorod region, for which local residents blamed the distillery. People found a large number of dead fry and fish in the polluted Chugunka River.

A month later Rosprirodnadzor confirmedthat the source of pollution of the Chugunka River is JSC Chugunovsky Distillery. There was an increased content of pollutants in the wastewater of the enterprise.

In addition, an analysis of environmental documentation showed that the plant does not have approved standards for permissible discharges.
