The Local Police have hunted a hearse that was participating in an illegal race in Galicia

In Galicia there is a huge passion for the world of motors, which is why meetups are common, events where fans attend to share their passion for cars and show off their vehicles. The problem is that, sometimes, these meetings get out of hand and what starts as a concentration, can end in a illegal race.

This is what has happened in the municipality of The Porriñolocated in the province of Pontevedra, very close to Vigo. Last Saturday, October 12, the Local Police of O Porriño had to intervene in a gathering in which illegal races were also held. The most curious thing is that one of the cars that participated in the races was a hearse.

The Local Police of O Porriño had been monitoring these concentrations for some time

That the police have to intervene in a concentration of cars that ends up having illegal races is nothing new. What we had never seen is that one of the participants in these races drove a hearse.

Not even the script of any of the ‘A todo gas’ films would have contemplated something like this, but reality is stranger than fiction and that is what has happened in the Galician municipality of O Porriño. On Saturday, October 12, the O Porriño Local Police launched the “Operation Caba”an intervention that aimed to break up a massive concentration of vehicles and people in the Oceanis-Cataboi industrial estate.

According to the Local Police of this municipality, the event was organized as a meeting through social networks, but it ended up having “driving exhibitions” and illegal races. Logically, these activities represent a serious risk to public safety.

The Local Police assures that, at first, these meetings were small gatherings, but they ended up becoming massive events every Saturday night. In fact, the authorities had observed over the last few weeks that the gatherings had increasingly more people and vehicles and that they were evolving into appointments for races and dangerous maneuvers, such as spins and “starts.”

On Saturday, October 12, the police decided to intervene with a special operation that included the use of drones and other technical means to document the violations. The agents arrived at the industrial estate by surprise at 12:55 a.m. and cut off all entrances and exits, except one, so that it was only possible to leave from one place.

Obviously the police were at that location and extensive inspections were carried out on all vehicles. The result of the operation is five drivers investigated by the commission of a crime against road safety (reckless driving) and nine drivers fined with administrative complaints of 500 euros and the loss of 6 points on their license. In addition, more than 20 violations of the General Vehicle Regulations were registered, as well as several more complaints for driving without insurance and without seat belts.

The Local Police of O Porriño assures that these concentrations take place in several municipalities in the region and in Portugal and that their organizers take measures to detect the police presence. However, on this occasion they did not work and even the hearse that participated in the illegal races was hunted.
