The man who tried to kill Trump pleaded not guilty

According to a statement from the US Department of Justice Ryan Routhwas charged with attempted assassination of a presidential candidate, possession of a firearm for the purpose of committing a violent crime, assault on a federal official, possession of a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, and possession of a weapon with a removed serial number, the American news portal Breitbart reported.

Routh’s defense attorneys before federal judge Bruce Reinhart jury trial asked for their client, the Fox News television network reported.

As we reported, Routh was arrested in mid-September after secret agents protecting Trump spotted the barrel of a gun near the golf course fence while the former president was playing golf. Routh fled but was soon captured. Authorities found a GoPro camera, two backpacks and an AK-47 type weapon at the scene.

Routh has since been revealed to be an enthusiastic supporter of Ukraine. He wrote in his social media posts that he would be willing to die for the country at war, and spent several months there after the Russian invasion.

This is not the first time that a pro-war assassin has attempted to kill a politician because of his views on the Russian-Ukrainian war. The investigation revealed that Juraj Cintula, who shot Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico five times in May, had previously participated in political rallies where he chanted pro-war and pro-Ukraine slogans.
