“The message of the National Movement of Patriotic Officers”, a gross fake?

Marcel Ciolacu’s message of support in the presidential campaign “signed” in the newspaper has already gone viral on the Internet Gandul.ro of 13 retired generals and officers entitled the National Movement of Patriotic Generals and Superior Officers.

At first sight it is a gross fake, because:

1. It is for the first time that we learn of the existence of such an organization, not aligned in the Defense Associative Structures Forum.

2. A “national movement” has no way of supporting the PSD leader and Prime Minister of Romania in a coalition unconditionally subordinated to Brussels, Washington and several other Western capitals, by virtue of which the Romanian Army reached the wooden hoe, its role being gradually taken over by forces from the US and other allied countries.

3. Logically, a true “national” movement, made up of soldiers or civilians, can only support a sovereignist candidate.

4. The first of the signatories on the list, General Decebal Ilina, whom I know well, did not interfere and does not interfere in politics, being a true patriot, not a self-declared one. From this position in the government, Nastase (2001-2004) accepted the position of state secretary in the Ministry of Economy responsible for the defense industry and tried to do everything possible to stop the decline and revive the sector. And also from this position, in recent years he responded to requests from the media, participating in a series of talk shows as an excellent professional not engaged in politics, whether it was about the defense industry, or whether the topic of the discussions was related to the war in Ukraine or other military developments in the world. I have the consent of his lordship and other former subordinate comrades to give this denial and I am convinced that the majority of employees in the factories he coordinated will agree with me.

5. If we consider an article that also became viral on the Internet more than two years ago, in which Rear Admiral Romulus Haldan bravely expressed his point of view regarding the current situation of the country and the Army, we can be sure that neither not be able to sign such a message.

6. The Romanian military in reserve and withdrawal have enough reasons not to vote with PSD or PNL – and we will be convinced of this on November 29, when our reservists will gather again to protest in front of the Government. Their complaints are primarily related to pensions and come mainly from those who retired before 2017. However, all the signatories are in this situation.

7. A completely special position is that of General (retd.) Bartolomeu Savoiu, commonly known as a Mason and described on the list of signatures as “former Vice-President of the Interallied Confederation of Reserve Officers (CIOR – NATO), former President of the Officers’ Association in the Romanian Reserve (AORR), President of the Law and Order Alliance Party (ALO)”.

As we have seen him in recent years “playing” on the political scene, we would have reason to believe that the government will take on the message.

As I, Maian Ilie – retired colonel, e-mailer former military diplomat, I assume this comment.
