- A portion of the online world plunged into blue darkness today
- Large global companies are reporting widespread system outages
- This giant mess has one common denominator
And that denominator is Windows. The world has woken up to information darkness today. Computers and servers running Windows have been experiencing major outages since this morning, causing truly widespread and costly problems across the globe. Outages are reported by banks, airlines, the media and similar institutions, which even had to limit operations due to these outages.
The Windows outage also affected large companies
On this problem she pointed out via the platform Reddit firm CrowdStrike, which it concerns in the first place. This cyber security company released an update to its anti-virus software, but it didn’t work at all and what happened was that the software started blocking Windows on the computers they run on.
This error then started to cause the so-called blue screen of death (BSOD) after starting the computers. The main problem is that Windows is used in combination with this software by a huge number of global companies, and this means that a large part of them simply cannot work because they cannot get into their systems at all.

Banks, airlines, but also TV stations
Banks (such as the Commonwealth Bank of Australia), world airlines (Ryanair) began to draw attention to the non-functionality of their systems, which lost online check-in and television, while Sky News even had to completely stop broadcasting. Then on the social network X about problems informed and Václav Havel Airport in Prague.
In addition to software from CrowdStrike, problems are also said to be responsible for this extensive outage Microsoft and its cloud services. From the looks of it, today is definitely not an ideal day for air travel or money transfers, and it can be assumed that the affected airports will be dealing with long flight delays and pile-ups of passengers.
A fix is possible, but not easy
The causes of the blue screen of death and therefore the inability to get into the system have already been located and CrowdStrike has issued instructions on how to remove it. Affected computers must be restarted in safe mode, then delete one specific file in the system and restart them again. It sounds simple, but it will not be easy in areas such as the airport, where there are hundreds of such computers.
