The minimum to follow the average, not the minimum consumer basket

President of UGS “Nezavisnost” Čedanka Andrić said that she will ask that the minimum amount exceed the price of the minimum consumer basket and be in line with the costs of the average consumer basket.

She added that she will ask for this during the negotiations on the minimum labor price for 2025.

“If there is a projection of what the wages will be in 2027, we have to start catching up with those wages, otherwise I don’t know how the Government intends to achieve the goal it set itself,” said Andrić, commenting that according to the Government’s projection, the minimum wage in 2027 would be should have been 650 euros, and this year it is around 47,000 dinars.

“Either the Government of Serbia has set an unrealistic goal, or we have to move towards that goal and raise everything faster, not just minimum wages that do not ensure a dignified life,” she said.

Without that, they missed the salary projection for 2027, Andrić noted and added that “if the Government of Serbia wants workers to believe in its projections, then they must also feel the benefits of such plans.”

“Until now, we have tried to respect the government’s argumentation, but it did not respect it and we have no reason to be realistic in our demands, we can be unrealistic too, if the state is so unrealistic in its promises, let’s see who will be the first to come to their senses”, Andrić said.

She assessed that she did not see why the unions would constantly be “constructive and let down”.

The average April basket is about 103,000 dinars

The commission for negotiations on the minimum wage, which should begin in mid-August between social partners, unions, the state and employers and end by September 15, as she said, has not yet been established, and UGS “Nezavsnost” will adopt a negotiating position at the session of the Executive board, at the beginning of that month and align it with the platform of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Serbia.

When asked why, when calculating the minimum wage for next year, data on consumer baskets for May of the current year, which was last published before the start of negotiations in August, is taken, Andrić said that the union insists that data on the costs of consumer baskets be published more quickly.

“This time, we will have less understanding for the data delay, so we will concentrate on the average basket, not the minimum one, which is below all criteria,” Andrić said, adding that the average April basket cost about 103,000 dinars, and the minimum one a little more than 53,000. .

She pointed out that the Government has not yet appointed the members of the Social and Economic Council, and that the Minister of Labour, Veterans and Social Affairs (Nemanja Starović) has not yet held a meeting with social partners, so that his legislative plan is not known, not only for this one, but also for the next year.
