The Ministry of Digital Development and Roskomnadzor are discussing the possibility of introducing restrictions on calls in instant messengers due to the growing number of scammers, reports Kommersant.
Two options are being considered: blocking calls only from abroad or a complete ban on calls through instant messengers.
The Ministry of Digital Development said that it is not yet “developing regulations that will limit voice traffic in instant messengers.” Roskomnadzor did not comment on the news.
According to MegaFon, the share of fraudulent calls in instant messengers is about 40%. Three years ago this figure was less than 1%. Telecom operators do not have the technical ability to analyze calls in instant messengers and determine their country of origin.
Pavel Kovalenko, director of the center for combating cyber fraud at Informzashita, believes that about 70% of fraudulent calls in instant messengers come from abroad. (Kommersant)
