The Ministry of Finance will publish the result of the state budget for three quarters

Prague – Today, the Ministry of Finance will publish the results of the state’s economy for the first three quarters. At the end of September last year, the state budget deficit amounted to 180.7 billion crowns. At the end of August this year, the budget was in a deficit of 175.8 billion crowns, which was the best result since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, but at the same time the fifth deepest half-yearly deficit in the history of the Czech Republic. At the end of the year, the state’s finances will be affected by the removal of damages after the September floods, but the impact on the September budget result will be limited.

Budget revenues for the first eight months of the year were 1.27 trillion crowns, an increase of two percent compared to last year. Expenditure at the end of August reached 1.446 trillion crowns, a year-on-year increase of 0.4 percent.

This year, the state should manage revenues of 1.94 trillion crowns and expenditures of 2.19 trillion crowns, with a planned deficit of 252 billion crowns. However, in view of the floods last week, the government decided to increase spending by 30 billion crowns, so the deficit should reach 282 billion crowns. The House of Representatives will discuss the budget amendment today in a state of legislative emergency. Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura (ODS) said that if flood damage is lower, the budget deficit will also be lower.

Last year, the budget ended with a deficit of 288.5 billion crowns. It was the best result since the beginning of the pandemic, but at the same time the fourth deepest deficit during the Czech Republic’s existence.
