The minor is in Auckland in the 2nd round, the Czechs did not do well in Adelaide

Auckland (New Zealand)/Adelaide (Australia) – Nineteen-year-old tennis player Jakub Menšík advanced to the second round of the tournament in Auckland after a more than two-hour battle. After a quick transfer from Brisbane, where he played the doubles final with Jiří Lehečka on Sunday, he beat Spaniard Pablo Carreň 6:2, 4:6, 7:5 in his first start in New Zealand. The Czech players did not do well at the tournament in Adelaide. Linda Nosková, Marie Bouzková and Kateřina Siniaková dropped out.

Alexandre Müller was originally supposed to be his opponent, but the Frenchman withdrew from the tournament at the last minute after winning the premier title in Hong Kong. Menšík will face the highest-seeded American Ben Shelton to advance to the quarterfinals. The Czech tennis player lost the only match between them last year in Indian Wells in three sets.

British tennis player Cameron Norrie finished in Auckland, losing 2:6, 3:6 to Argentinian Facundo Díaz, but he could also say goodbye to the tournament with disqualification after he hit a spectator with his racket in the last game. The native of Johannesburg, who represented New Zealand as a junior until 2013 and lived in Auckland, waved his arms in frustration after a botched shot that meant a match point for the opponent and the rocket flew into the audience. He immediately apologized for the incident and escaped with a warning from the referee.

“I didn’t mean to do anything like that, but it’s still not ideal when it happens,” apologized the 29-year-old Norrie after the match. “She was laughing and saying she was perfectly fine, so it wasn’t too bad. But we’ve seen with other players that it can easily lead to a ban,” he added.

Nosková will not defend last year’s final in Adelaide, Bouzková and Siniaková also dropped out

Linda Nosková will not defend last year’s final participation at the tournament in Adelaide. In the general round at the Australian Open, she was not enough against the Greek Maria Sakkari and lost 3:6, 3:6. After the success in the qualification, Marie Bouzková and Kateřina Siniaková also finished at the beginning of the main competition on the rackets of the Russian opponents. Bouzková lost to Ljudmila Samsonová 6:1, 4:6, 1:6, Siniaková to sixth seed Diana Šnajderová 3:6, 6:0, 0:6.

The 20-year-old Nosková lost to former world No. 3 Sakkari in 75 minutes. The Greek tennis player, who ended the last unsuccessful season after the US Open due to a shoulder injury, entered the main competition only as a lucky loser from the qualification, but she had the upper hand against Nosková from the beginning. The Czech player did not use even one of the three break point chances and lost her serve three times. Nine double faults helped her opponent to her first win since the Olympic Games in Paris.

Siniaková against Šnajderová did not complete the promising turn. After losing the opening set, she gave her opponent a “canary” and equalized, but she did not even win a game in the deciding set. The Russian will challenge another Czech tennis player, Markéta Vondroušová, in the second round.

In Adelaide, Bouzková will not follow up on her quarter-final appearance from the previous tournament in Brisbane. She won the opening set against Samsonová, but lost the second set 4:6 after more than an hour of battle, and in the third her opponent clearly had the upper hand.
