The film is called The Rubber Keyed Wonder and tells the story of the creation and development of the ZX Spectrum, the success it brought to Sinclair and the impact it had through the various versions of the computer that followed, as well as covering the staggering number of games that were developed.
The nostalgic film features an archive combined with newly filmed interviews with the original ZX Spectrum designers, Sinclair’s relatives (he himself passed away in 2021) as well as some of Spectra’s greatest game developers from the era, all sharing their memories of the ZX Spectrum’s extraordinary rise.

British inventor Sir Clive Sinclair had a vision in the late 1970s to create an affordable home computer. In 1982, he launched the ZX Spectrum home computer, which sold millions of units worldwide. Copies of it also appeared in Czechoslovak households, for example Didaktik Gama or Skalica (I was lucky enough to have one of these at home as well, author’s note).
Thanks to the ZX Spectrum, many people learned to program and create their own games, kick-starting the British video game industry in the 1980s. The most famous games included Jet Set Willy, Manic Miner, Ant Attack and Saboteur. You can still buy a newly produced model.
The film was created thanks to the support of fans on Kickstarter, who invested over 100 thousand pounds (just under three million CZK) into it. It won’t run in cinemas, but you will be able to order it on Blu-ray, DVD or online as a video file (no details). For news pointed out magazine High-Voltage.cz
